Refugees and Climate – join us to show you care!
On the evening of Monday 18th October, both the Guildhall and the Waterfront Museum will be lit up in orange to mark the Together with Refugees Week of Action to oppose the anti-refugee bill.
We are also in the midst of the build up to the Cop26 Climate Change conference, and mini-marches are being organised around the country as part of the The World Climate March before that conference.
Everyone is welcome to join us on Monday evening for Swansea’s mini-march for climate action and refugee welcome. We are meeting outside the Guildhall at 6.45 p.m. and will then walk to the Waterfront so we will see both buildings lit up. We are calling for:
- a humane and just approach to those seeking sanctuary whether they are fleeing from war, from persecution or from the effects of climate change
- asylum seekers to be allowed to work while waiting for their claim to be decided (see Lift The Ban)
- real actions, not just targets, to deal with the climate emergency
- more support and planning to cope with the inevitable rise in climate refugees over the coming years.
