Film showing: “Revolutionary Dreams: A Journey of a Chilean Political Refugee from Chile to Wales”
plus live presentations of Swansea City of Sanctuary Anniversary Sanctuary Awards
This is a joint event hosted by Jose Cifuentes with Swansea City of Sanctuary. In the first half there will be the launch of the documentary on the story of Jose, who came to Swansea as a refugee from Chile in 1973, plus a chance for questions and discussion with Jose.
In person presentations of Anniversary Sanctuary Award certificates will take place at the start of the second half, including:
- Gower College, first College of Sanctuary in Wales, to be presented by Mike Hedges MS
- Glynn Vivian, first Art Gallery of Sanctuary in UK, with a video message specially recorded by Sioned Williams MS
- Fusion Project of Swansea Council’s Cultural Services Department
- A special award recognition to Swansea Asylum Seekers Support, for their commitment over many years to welcome and celebrate the contribution of refugees and asylum seekers in Swansea, with a thankyou poem by Alhaji Kamara
- Oxfam Bookshop Castle Street, renewed Shop of Sanctuary award
- Renewed Sanctuary Awards to Ethnic Youth Support Team, Unity in Diversity, and Swansea Council for Voluntary Service.
Please arrive by 19:00 for music, drinks and socialising, for the documentary to start promptly at 19.30. Please do not attend if suffering any symptoms of COVID, cold, flu, fever, etc.
Photographs of speakers and award winners may be taken during the event, our audience will not be captured.
