On September 24th Mumbles Churches Together hosted a tea and church service where the guests were members of Swansea City of Sanctuary management committee. A very sociable tea was enjoyed in the hall of Holy Cross Church, West Cross!
Stephen, our SCoS Treasurer, gave a talk where he clearly described the work of SCoS, referring to many of the organisations that are actively supporting sanctuary seekers in the locality. This was followed by Carys describing the links between Swansea churches and sanctuary seekers.
Following the generous and delicious afternoon tea, which was much enjoyed, the united service had as its theme of Sanctuary. The main address was shared by Carlos, our Co-Chair, who spoke about sanctuary seekers as volunteers, and by Dr Martha who outlined her lived experience, including a poem which she had composed for the occasion. The church was full to hear these personal accounts; the hymn singing with organ accompaniment was uplifting; and there was a general feeling of positivity and warmth!
Donations from the event were given to SCoS, thank you again to Mumbles Churches Together for the very warm welcome.
