A Morning of Generosity & Inspiration

On Saturday 7th February, Uniting Church Sketty welcomed the community for a lovely fund‑raising coffee morning in support of Swansea City of Sanctuary. The church was bustling with conversation and generosity, coming just as we approach Lent/Ramadan, a season rooted in reflection and giving.

The cake stall, which was piled high with home-made bakes, was a particular delight. We enjoyed sharing them over cups of tea, and the cakes quickly disappeared as visitors gathered to chat, support, and share in the spirit of welcome. By the end of the morning, every slice had found a home!

Alongside a well‑supported raffle and a table‑top sale, the event raised a significant sum to help sustain Swansea City of Sanctuary’s ongoing work with people seeking safety in our city. A heartfelt thank‑you goes to the dedicated volunteers from Uniting Church and the Swansea City of Sanctuary team, whose warmth and hard work created such a welcoming atmosphere. Their efforts turned a simple coffee morning into a lovely celebration of community.

A seasonal invitation

As Lent and Ramadan begin, we are reminded of the shared values of generosity, reflection, and kindness that run across many faith traditions and communities. Inspired by this event, we invite individuals, community groups, and faith communities across Swansea to consider hosting their own acts of welcome – whether through a coffee morning, a community gathering, a themed service, or another creative event.

Swansea City of Sanctuary is happy to offer ideas, resources, and practical support to help shape events that reflect the character and values of each community. We also welcome groups and individuals to join the City of Sanctuary movement and become members, to stay connected with local projects, events, and opportunities.

Together, especially in this season of reflection, we believe we can continue building a city where sanctuary is lived out in everyday acts of generosity and hope.
