Your Support is Needed!

Dear Swansea City of Sanctuary supporters,

We need your help to ensure that Swansea City of Sanctuary (SCoS) continues its vital work and expands its efforts to make our city a welcoming place for asylum seekers and refugees.

As you may already know, our current activities include:

  • Supporting City of Sanctuary UK National Awards: Over 10 Swansea schools have achieved Schools of Sanctuary status, all Swansea Libraries recognised as Libraries of Sanctuary, Glynn Vivian Gallery is an Art Gallery of Sanctuary, and The National Waterfront as a Museum of Sanctuary – the list goes on!
  • Organising events that bring communities together: For example, our Sing for Sanctuary Concert during Refugee Week 2024 united local choirs with people who have lived experience of seeking sanctuary in a celebration of solidarity.
  • Collaborating with other organisations: We regularly hold coordination meetings with groups involved in refugee and asylum seeker support in Swansea, to keep people informed about what everyone is doing and to promote joint initiatives if appropriate.
  • Advocating for sanctuary seekers: We actively challenge negative perceptions and attitudes by making our voice heard on social media and by being visibly present at events and demonstrations.

Going a step further
We are excited about our new Community Cohesion programme to take our message to as many local communities as possible in Swansea over the next two years. Various types of events, including joint ones with other groups, will aim to foster understanding and build stronger, more connected communities.

Our Home Away From Home exhibition will be used as a key source of visual information, so we want to update and extend it.

However, to do all this, we need funds, and we need volunteers!

We are what our supporters do
That is our SCoS slogan. What can you do to help us?

Supporting us financially

  • Make a one-off or regular donation. You can donate through our LocalGiving page (we can claim Gift Aid on eligible donations). We also accept bank transfers, cheques, or cash.
  • Sign up with Easyfundraising. It costs you nothing and raises funds for us while you shop online! Join here and select Swansea City of Sanctuary as your cause.
  • Take part in Lotto Abertawe—a fun way to support good causes in Swansea. Visit Lotto Abertawe and choose Swansea City of Sanctuary as your cause!

Volunteer with us
We welcome everyone – whether you have lived experience of seeking asylum or not – who wishes to make Swansea a better place, to volunteer with us. Contact us at [email protected] if you are interested. Your level of commitment is your choice alone:

  • Help at events on a one-off basis as and when time permits;
  • Participate in on-going activities, as part of a small group;
  • Take the lead in making something happen that you would like to see happen.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Best wishes,
The Swansea City of Sanctuary team
