‘Art for the Park’ accepted for the Swansea Open exhibition!

During lockdown, Art for the Park, a project from University of Wales Trinity St David, had UWTSD graduate NylahMAK running Zoom workshops in which asylum seekers made fabric bird houses based on tent and cocoon forms as symbols of displacement and refuge. These were exhibited at Singleton Park Botanical Gardens in May 2021.

Nylah, a surface pattern graduate from Swansea College of Art, designed the project. Her online workshops introduced a series of experimental techniques that allowed each participant to make a bird house that is visually and conceptually unique.

The Art for the Park exhibit has now been accepted for the Swansea Open 2021 exhibition and will be shown at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, recently acknowledged as the first Art Gallery of Sanctuary in the UK. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved and really reflects the talent and commitment of everyone who took part.

A huge congratulations to Nylah, and to all those who participated!

Swansea Open 2021 takes place be between Saturday 20 November 2021 – Sunday 30 January 2022 10:30am – 4:30pm.
