Workshop to launch Maternity Stream in Swansea

Swansea City of Sanctuary is in the process of launching a maternity working group and stream of work, focusing on the experiences of women seeking sanctuary and service provision.  We are holding a small, invite-only workshop on Friday March 18th, at The Environment Centre, Pier Street, SA1 1RY.  A map for the venue can be accessed here.

The City of Sanctuary Network has a ‘Maternity Stream’ (https://maternity.cityofsanctuary.org/) where cities across the country are dedicating time and energy to celebrating the fantastic work that maternity services and organisations are doing to support refugee and asylum seeking women and young children. We are hoping to replicate and support this work in Swansea and will be starting this with a small event on the 18th of March. This will look both at the experiences that people have had or are having in Swansea as well as looking at the context in which this occurs such as entitlements, difficulties with language and the issues of dispersal, detention and so on. We hope that by setting up a stream and meetings we will be able to support each other and to help tackle some of the barriers that refugee and asylum seeking women face and ensure that people have access to all the fantastic support and guidance that is available in Swansea.
