Swansea City of Sanctuary has always been led and powered by volunteers. From our earliest days, volunteers have taken projects forward and shaped our direction.
As we’ve grown and become a registered charity, we’ve been speaking with our members about how to build on that strong foundation. These conversations have helped to identify key roles and areas where extra support could make a real difference across Swansea.
Some of the roles below are established volunteer roles (such as Trustee, or Project Coordinator). Others are new or developing ideas, where we’re exploring whether there’s interest and capacity among our community to take them forward. We are especially keen to develop communications and fundraising activities – please see associated roles below.
Whether you want to take on a specific role or are curious about how your skills could help, we’d love to hear from you. If you have time, enthusiasm, or skills to share, please get in touch – we’d love to explore how you could contribute!
We especially welcome people with lived experience of seeking sanctuary.
Current Roles
Community Cohesion Project Coordinator
Plan and organise community events across the city to bring different communities together, especially where people don’t have chances to meet or learn about asylum seekers and refugees or places that asylum seekers don’t feel welcome or safe. We have funding for events but not enough people to lead them!
Trustee
Shape the vision for the charity and share responsibility for the charity’s activity. We have a small board of Trustees and most of them are also very active volunteering for the charity. We are looking for trustees with experience in media, legal, community development, and fundraising. We especially welcome people with lived experience of seeking sanctuary to be involved throughout our charity, including within our decision making.
Developing Roles
These roles are an outline of areas where we’d like to build more capacity and explore new ideas. These are not set in stone; we’re incredibly flexible and welcome people with any level of experience or interest in these areas. If you have skills and enthusiasm about getting involved, we’d love to hear from you and shape the role together.
